How to pin an Instagram post or Reel to your profile
- Open the Instagram app on your iPhone, Android device, or iPad.
- Go to your profile and open the existing post or Reel you want to pin.
- Open the item’s options menu.
- Choose the profile-pinning control. This is commonly shown as Pin to your profile, although the exact wording should be checked against the current version of your app.
- Return to your profile after completing the action.
If the pin control is missing, confirm that you are using a supported Instagram mobile app and that you opened the options menu for content on your own profile. Updating or reinstalling the app is not a guaranteed fix.
Pinning highlights content rather than hiding it. If hiding the post is your goal, you can archive an Instagram post instead.
How to confirm the post is pinned
Return to your Instagram profile and look at the top of the profile grid. The selected post or Reel should appear in the pinned area at the top. Open the item again if needed and check that its options menu now offers an unpin control rather than a pin control.
How to unpin the post or Reel later
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Open the pinned post or Reel.
- Open the item’s options menu.
- Select the profile-unpinning control, commonly shown as Unpin from your profile. Confirm the action if Instagram asks you to do so.
- Return to your profile and verify that the item is no longer in the pinned area.
Unpinning removes the pinned placement. It does not by itself delete, archive, edit, or republish the content.
