To share your screen on a WhatsApp video call, start or join an active video call, then use the in-call screen-sharing control if it is available in your app. WhatsApp has announced screen sharing across mobile and desktop devices, but the control label, position, and confirmation prompt can differ by platform and app version.
Before you start, protect anything visible on your display. A screen share can reveal far more than the item you intend to show.
Before You Share Your Screen on WhatsApp
- Close banking, email, password-manager, and private messaging apps.
- Hide or silence notifications so incoming messages and verification codes are less likely to appear.
- Do not open one-time passcodes, passwords, recovery codes, payment details, or account-security screens while sharing.
- Share only with someone you know and trust. Do not share your screen because an unknown caller asks you to enter a code, open a bank app, or install software.
WhatsApp has introduced warnings intended to help protect people from screen-sharing scams. Read WhatsApp’s screen-sharing safety warning for the wider safety context.
Share Your Screen on iPhone or Android
On both iPhone and Android, begin from an active WhatsApp video call. Look through the in-call controls for the screen-sharing option. Depending on your device, you may need to expand the call controls before it is visible.
- Start a video call with the person or group you want to show something to.
- Open the in-call controls and select the available screen-sharing option.
- Read the iPhone or Android system prompt carefully. It may explain that your screen content can be broadcast to call participants.
- Confirm the share only after checking that no sensitive app, notification, code, or document is visible.
- Return to the item you want to demonstrate while keeping the call active.
Interface wording and icons are platform-dependent, so use the control currently shown in your version of WhatsApp rather than relying on an older screenshot or guide. Do not assume that device-audio sharing works the same way on every phone.
Share Your Screen in WhatsApp Desktop for Windows or Mac
WhatsApp has described screen sharing as part of its calling improvements across desktop and mobile. See WhatsApp’s calling updates for the official feature context.
In the WhatsApp Desktop app for Windows or Mac, start an active video call and check the in-call controls for a screen-sharing option. If your desktop app presents it, select it and follow any operating-system confirmation before choosing what to share.
- Start a WhatsApp video call in the installed WhatsApp Desktop app.
- Open the in-call controls and select the available screen-sharing control.
- If Windows or macOS asks for confirmation or permission, review what will be shared before allowing it.
- Choose only the screen or window needed for the call, where that choice is offered.
- Keep private windows, notifications, and account information out of view.
Windows and Mac can present different permissions and controls. This guidance applies to the WhatsApp Desktop apps only; it does not assume screen-sharing support in WhatsApp Web.
How to Stop Sharing Your Screen
When you have finished showing the item, use the active call’s stop-sharing control. Stopping a share and ending the video call may be separate actions, so check that the shared-screen indicator has disappeared before opening anything private.
- Return to the WhatsApp call window or call screen.
- Select the available option to stop the screen share.
- Confirm that the other participant can no longer see your display.
- Continue the video call if needed, or end it separately when you are done.
If you are unsure whether the share has ended, treat the screen as still visible and avoid opening sensitive content until you can confirm otherwise.
If You Do Not See a Screen-Sharing Control
First, confirm that you are in an active video call, not another call type. Then update WhatsApp through your device’s app store or the official desktop download source and check the current in-call interface again.
Availability and labels can differ by app, device, and platform. If the control is still not present after updating, avoid relying on unverified instructions for a different platform or for WhatsApp Web.
