WhatsApp supports native events inside group chats, allowing members to share a scheduled activity and collect attendance responses in one event card. Meta’s WhatsApp events announcement also confirms that attendees can receive an alert as the event approaches.

If the group has not decided on a date, time or venue, you can first create a poll in WhatsApp. Once the choice is settled, use the event feature for the final schedule and responses.

Check where WhatsApp group events are available

A WhatsApp event is a card created inside an existing group. It does not create a new group or add the activity to an external calendar.

  • iPhone and Android: Event creation is available through the group-chat tools when the feature has reached the account and app version. The precise menu appearance can differ between platforms and rollouts.
  • Regular and Community groups: Events were introduced for groups within Communities, but Meta said the feature would expand to other groups. It should not be treated as Community-only.
  • WhatsApp Web and Desktop: Current reporting conflicts on whether every Web, Windows and Mac version can create events. Use the mobile app for creation unless an Event option is visibly available in the computer’s attachment menu. Viewing or response controls may also vary by release.

If the Event option is missing on mobile, install any available WhatsApp update from the App Store or Google Play and check the group menu again. An update does not guarantee immediate access because features can be introduced gradually.

Create and send an event in a WhatsApp group

No current WhatsApp Help Center page in the available research documents the exact interface, so the labels below reflect the commonly reported mobile layout and may differ slightly in your version.

  1. Open WhatsApp and select the existing group in which you want to schedule the activity.
  2. On iPhone, open the plus menu beside the message field. On Android, open the attachment menu.
  3. Select Event. If that entry is not present, the feature may not be available in that app version or account rollout.
  4. Enter an event name and choose the date and time shown in the form.
  5. Complete any additional fields available in your version. Depending on the current interface, these may include a description, location or WhatsApp call details. Do not add sensitive information that every group member should not see.
  6. Review the schedule, especially the date, time and time-of-day setting, and then use the visible send or create control.

WhatsApp posts the completed event card in the group so members can open it and respond. Available fields and their limits can vary, so rely on the controls displayed in your production app rather than older screenshots.

Set reminders and review attendance responses

WhatsApp has announced both near-event attendee alerts and custom early reminders. Its January 2026 announcement about event reminders confirms the custom reminder feature but does not document universal reminder intervals or recipient behavior.

  1. Open the sent event card from the group chat or the group’s event listing.
  2. Look for the reminder control in the event details. If it is available, choose one of the lead times displayed by your app.
  3. Use the visible save or confirmation control to apply the selection.
  4. Return to the event card to review the attendance responses currently recorded for the event.

Do not assume that every account offers the same reminder choices. WhatsApp may also provide an automatic alert near the event, but delivery can depend on the attendee’s response and current feature behavior.

Edit or cancel the WhatsApp group event

Use the account that created the event when looking for its management controls. Exact labels and editable fields have not been documented in an official WhatsApp help article and can vary by app release.

  1. Open the group and select the event card.
  2. Open the event’s options or management control.
  3. To correct the event, select Edit or the equivalent control displayed in your app. Change only the fields made available, then use the visible save or update action.
  4. To withdraw the event, select Cancel event if that control appears and review the confirmation prompt before proceeding.
  5. Reopen the event card after saving or cancelling to verify its current details or status in the group.

If editing or cancellation controls are not visible on Web or Desktop, reopen the event from the creator’s iPhone or Android app. Avoid creating a second event until you have checked the original card, since doing so could leave the group with two competing schedules.
